As shown above, heavy rain fall in the Black Hills area, has produced flood conditions in several areas on and off base. Increased rain resulted in the evacuation of more than 20 families from the Box Elder community, which borders Ellsworth. The Black Hills Area Chapter of the American Red Cross has opened a shelter at Douglas Middle School to help support Box Elder residents displaced by flooding. People who live in low-lying areas are advised to pack a bag containing extra clothing, medications and other necessities to prepare for possible evacuation as the rain continues throughout the day.
