Second Lt. Amela Kamencic was 2 when her family fled their hometown of Prijedor, Bosnia, as Serbian forces invaded April 25, 1992. She is now an environmental program manager in the 28th Civil Engineer Squadron at Ellsworth Air Force Base, S.D., serving in the Air Force that helped establish peace in her homeland 25 years ago.
