  • Another First as Ellsworth B-1s Integrate With Ukrainian, Turkish Assets During BTF Mission

    Ellsworth added another “first-ever” to its long list of accomplishments when a pair of base B-1B Lancers integrated with Ukrainian Su-27 Flankers and MiG-29 Fulcrums as well as Turkish KC-135s during a long-range, long duration Dynamic Force Employment mission throughout Europe and the Black Sea region May 29, 2020.
  • Ellsworth receives masks, distributes to work centers

    A shipment of more than 4,000 face masks arrived at the 28th Logistics Readiness Squadron at Ellsworth Air Force Base April 21. More than 7,000 masks were procured by the 28th Contracting Squadron in an effort to battle the 2019 Novel Coronavirus (COVID-19), with the 28th LRS distributing the first shipment April 22.

    The results of the 2019 Global Strike Challenge are tallied and the Raiders of Team Ellsworth claimed top honors for their accomplishments in maintenance, munitions maintenance and bomb squadron operations.
  • DoD Makes Changes to Pharmacy Medications

    Beginning Oct. 1, patients who are not assigned to a provider at a Military Treatment Facility will not be eligible to receive medications that are not on the Department of Defense Tricare formulary list.
  • 28th Medical Group hosts DECON exercise

    The 28th Medical Group hosted a decontamination exercise to demonstrate and test their readiness and capabilities to handle a simulated Chemical, Biological, Radiological and Nuclear threat in a real-world situation. They were timed and tested on their ability to don their gear, set up a DECON station, set up a water heater to provide warm water to the station and clean all harmful chemicals and materials from a training dummy. They were able to complete their task well under the allotted completion time and earn required certifications pertaining to their career field.
  • Ellsworth Airmen pay respects to World War II veteran

    Airmen from Ellsworth Air Force Base attend the funeral of former Pfc. Carroll E. Lonas, 94, who served as a rifleman with the U.S. Army National Guard’s 45th Infantry Division during World War II. Lonas was detained by the Germans for 14 months prior to his escape. He hiked roughly 1,100 miles to friendly territory. Lonas was laid to rest at the Black Hills National Cemetery in Sturgis, S.D. on May 9.
  • African American History Month at Ellsworth

    On Feb. 14, Col. John Edwards, the 28th Bomb Wing commander, signed a proclamation designating the month of February 2019 as African American History Month at Ellsworth Air Force Base. The proclamation signing is put together annually by the African American Heritage committee. Each year embraces a different theme. This years’ theme is “Black Migrations.”
  • Load crew of the year competition

    Weapon loaders from the 28th Munitions Squadron, the 34th Aircraft Maintenance Unit and the 37th Aircraft Maintenance Unit compete in an annual weapons loading competition at Ellsworth Air Force Base, S.D., Jan. 7, 2019. Each team was given 40 minutes to load two inert GBU-38 Joint Direct Attack Munitions and one inert AGM-158 Joint Air-to-Surface Standoff Missile onto a simulated B-1 bomber.
  • FTAC: First stop for incoming Airmen

    After spending eight and a half weeks in Air Force Basic Military Training, and several months in technical school, some first-term Airmen arrive at their first duty stations still in trainee mode. The First Term Airmen Course is geared toward preparing incoming, first-term Airmen for their jump from the structured world of training to the more flexible world of the operational Air Force.
  • B-1s take off for Trident Juncture

    B-1B Lancers from the 34th Bomb Squadron, 28th Bomb Wing, launched from Ellsworth Air Force Base on Oct. 29 for a transatlantic flight to Norway to participate in Trident Juncture 2018.
