  • Ellsworth officially selected as first base to receive B-21s

    The Secretary of the Air Force officially selected Ellsworth Air Force Base, South Dakota, as the location to host the Air Force’s first operational B-21 Raiders and the formal training unit. The B-21 Raider was designed to replace the Air Force’s aging bomber fleet as a long-range, highly-survivable bomber capable of carrying mixed-conventional and nuclear payloads, to strike any target worldwide.

  • Next Ellsworth Commander Named

    A new pair of hands will be at the helm of the world’s largest B-1 bomber combat wing next month. Col. Joseph Sheffield is scheduled to take command of the 28th Bomb Wing during a special ceremony scheduled for June.
  • Temporary ‘landmark’ removal signals improving times

    A common sight at the 28th Medical Group prompted by the COVID-19 pandemic was removed from the medical facility at Ellsworth Air Force Base on May 19. The mobile emergency operations center (MEOC) was loaned to the 28th MDG by the 28th Civil Engineer Squadron in March 2020 to allow COVID testing to take place outside of the medical facility and has now been returned.
