Building dedication in honor of former base commander Nov. 10

  • Published
Base and community leaders will gather at 2 p.m., Nov. 10 to dedicate a key training facility in honor of a former wing commander killed in a plane crash.

During the ceremony, the base's Mission Employment Center will be renamed the "Maj. Gen. Joseph D. Brown, IV, Mission Training Center," in honor of Brown, who served in a variety of roles at Ellsworth from June 2001 to June 2005, including 28th Bomb Wing commander and 28th Operations Group commander.

Brown and his wife, Susan, were killed in a small plane crash April 19, 2013, near Williamsburg, Virginia.

The building being dedicated is home to the wing's two B-1 bomber weapon system trainers - more commonly known as simulators - and is vital to train Ellsworth's B-1 aviators.

The ceremony will mark the end of a 24-hour run from 2 p.m. Nov. 9 until 2 p.m. Nov. 10, where participants will continuously carry an American flag in recognition of our nation's prisoners of war and those listed as missing in action in honor of Veterans Day.
