More than 460 Airmen here celebrated the season Dec. 1, at the Wing Holiday Party held in the Rushmore Plaza Holiday Inn. The gathering included a performance by the Rapid City Children’s Choir, a slideshow of deployed Ellsworth members, a plated meal, and dancing. Civic leaders attended, as well as Ellsworth civilians, servicemembers of all ranks, and their guests. To decrease the cost of the event, base personnel donated funds to see wing leaders dress in themed attire. Winners of the Santa and elves competition performed for the crowd in costume. Baddy, a 28th Security Forces Military Working Dog, died on December 6 after severe medical complications. Baddy was assigned to Ellsworth on April 9, 1999.  During his seven year military career the German Shepherd supported the US Secret Service and US State Department for the protection of the President, Vice President, First Lady and numerous key foreign leaders on visits across the country.
